MANILA, Philippines – The bicameral conference committee (bicam) meetings on the proposed 2026 budget extend to Monday, December 15, as lawmakers from the House and the Senate continue to reconcile their versions of the national spending plan.
The bicam is expected to continue discussions on the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) proposed 2026 budget after its secretary Vince Dizon made a last-minute appeal to restore the agency’s funding level approved by the House.
During the hearing on Sunday, December 14, Dizon argued before lawmakers that the P53.9-billion budget cut could result in underfunded projects that cannot be implemented.
He instead proposed to restore the House version of the DPWH budget so that the DPWH will be able to apply the reduced construction costs in the projects’ Program of Works. (READ: Dizon urges bicam to restore DPWH budget cuts)
