Republicans facing 'triple whammy' of unfulfilled Trump promises ahead of midterms: expert

During an appearance on MS NOW on Thursday morning, Cook Political Report Senior Analyst Dave Wasserman delivered grim news to the Republican Party, with the midterm election only seven months away.

Speaking with co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Willie Geist, Wasserman claimed there is little at the moment that is going their way with an unpopular president and an unpopular war dragging them down to new low approval depths.

As he noted, the president has backed off or ignored some of his campaign problems and, even though he is not on the 2026 ballot, GOP candidates will be the ones to pay the price.

“The war in Iran is almost as unpopular as the health care provisions of the One Big, Beautiful Bill,” he began. “The question here is how do Democrats narrow down their message?”

“And I think, first and foremost, they are going to be running on an umbrella of cost-of-living issues and healthcare and gas prices are going to be at the top of the list,” he predicted. “And there are three campaign promises that President Trump made that Democrats are going to capitalize on: not touching entitlements, extracting America from foreign conflicts, and ushering in an economic golden age.”

“That's a triple whammy for Republicans,” he warned.
