A former Army lawyer was alarmed by President Donald Trump's rantings about coverage of the war on Iran during a segment on CNN's "NewsNight" on Thursday.
Margaret Donovan, a former Army JAG lawyer, was asked to respond to a post Trump fired off on Truth Social, attacking the Wall Street Journal's conservative editorial board over a recent editorial that said declaring victory against Iran was "premature." The editorial cited ongoing issues stemming from attacks against U.S. allies in the Middle East and the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has sent global energy prices skyrocketing.

"The Wall Street Journal, one of the worst and most inaccurate 'Editorial Boards' in the World, stated that I 'declared premature victory in Iran.' Actually, it is a Victory, and there’s nothing 'premature' about it!" Trump wrote. "Because of me, IRAN WILL NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON and, very quickly, you’ll see Oil start flowing, with or without the help of Iran and, to me, it makes no difference, either way. The Wall Street Journal will, as usual, live to eat their words."
Donovan slammed Trump's post.
"This is totally mad," she said. "These are like the rantings of a mentally ill person. And the idea that you have soldiers and American troops who are just sort of waiting for him to make a decision on his whim. If you had an elderly neighbor who was posting those things, you would probably do a welfare check on them and say, 'I hope you don't have access to weapons, because you seem very unwell.' This is the commander in chief."
She also took a shot at Republicans for enabling Trump's behavior.
"The absence, the silence of one part of Congress on what he's doing, it's catastrophic for the American public," Donovan said.
