Real Madrid has already started its search for a new head coach according to Cadena SER, citing anonymous sources, despite Alvaro Arbeloa leading the first team for just a single match yet suffering a nightmare start in the dugout.
Promoted from the Castilla reserve outfit he was overseeing, Arbeloa replaced the fired Xabi Alonso as Real Madrid manager on Monday.
While Alonso got at least seven months to work in the job after taking over from Carlo Ancelotti, however, Cadena SER has reported that President Florentino Perez is already looking for his next head coach following Madrid’s shocking 3-2 Copa del Rey last 16 exit to Second Division minnows Albacete on Wednesday.
Arbeloa called the loss a ‘tragedy’ but refused to accept it was a failure post-match. Yet as things stand, he might not be granted much time to show what he can do with the 15-time Champions League winner possibly lining up a successor for next season.
On the popular El Larguero radio programme on Cadena SER, it was explained that: “At Real Madrid they are already sounding out several coaches. This morning they were already sounding them out for next season. I guess Arbeloa’s [reign] is until summer and we’ll see how it goes.”
Jurgen Klopp has already distanced himself from the Real Madrid job
Often linked to the Bernabeu in the past, Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp has already distanced himself from potentially managing a club that he twice failed to beat in Champions League finals.
“This has nothing to do with me and it doesn’t affect me at all,” Klopp said about Alonso’s dismissal on Austrian television.
“Coaching positions are always changing, and it’s okay to watch it from the sidelines without worrying about what it might mean for you personally, because where I am now is the right place for me,” he then added.
According to SKY Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg, however, Klopp is “seriously considering” leaving his director’s post with the Red Bull group and coming out of managerial retirement to lead Madrid.
Elsewhere, ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has also been named as a possible long-term hire while a third stint at Real Madrid for Zinedine Zidane can’t be ruled out.
