In a direct response to the growing “Quantum Anxiety” sparked by recent breakthroughs at Google and IBM, Ripple officially unveiled its Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) roadmap for the XRP Ledger (XRPL) on April 21, 2026.
Partnering with the specialist firm Project Eleven, Ripple’s Head of Engineering, J. Ayo Akinyele, detailed a multi-phase transition designed to reach full quantum readiness by 2028.
This isn’t just a minor patch; it’s a fundamental re-architecture of how digital signatures and validator infrastructure operate on the network.

The plan involves a sophisticated “hybrid” approach, where current cryptographic standards will run alongside new, quantum-resistant algorithms to ensure zero downtime during the migration. Ripple is positioning itself as the “adult in the room,” addressing the reality that future quantum computers could eventually crack the Elliptic Curve signatures that protect billions in assets.
While other chains are still debating whether to “freeze” dormant wallets, Ripple is building a bridge to the next era of computing. This move has already bolstered confidence in the XRP ecosystem, with the token jumping 5% on the news.
